First Post
Isn't it amazing (to all those who blog) how long it takes to write your first post? I've been saying for almost 6 months now that I'm going to start sharing my life by blogging and finally I've broke down to actually doing it. I really don't know what to blog about today but I'll share with you why I've titled it, "Life's a Swell":
I moved to Charleston 4 years ago thinking I had my life planned out. I knew exactly how I wanted things to go: Find the perfect job, check. Buy a house, check. Get married, not quite yet. Well, since then nothing has gone the way that I thought it would. I've had my contractors license, real estate license, insurance and investment licenses, and still have yet to find my calling in this crazy world. I bought a house which I'm now trying to sell b/c what seemed like a great idea at the time but it wasn't the most logical decision I've made in my 26 yrs on this earth. I've made numerous mistakes in a relationship w/ my best friend, and as a man, I am slowly learning how to truly love someone... What has remained constant is that life never stops moving, or sympathetically asks "would you like me to slow down?"
I first learned to surf at Waikiki Beach in Hawaii when I was 12 and to me, it was my sanctuary. A place where I could forget everything else and just be... Shortly after moving here to Charleston I bought my 1st surf board and really learned to ride from people who would unknowingly become my lifelong friends. They taught me about "swells"... About the way they can change the landscape of a beach, the way they can produce huge waves that test every ounce of your skill, and the way you learn to appreciate them by surfing the smaller days (which we usually get here more often than not)... The ocean is still my sanctuary. To me, it's a place where I learn to "just be" and slow down, to not take life too seriously, to reflect, and ultimately to enjoy the beauty that God has set before me.
We all face swells in our life, and they can be monumental, both good and bad. This blog is not a predominately surfing, "hey brah!" blog... But a place where I'll share my life, and thoughts on random things that interest me.
Hope you enjoy reading about my journey to living a better story!
